The Monday market is located below the Hole in One Restaurant in San Antonio. The address is: #89 Carretera. It is easy to find. It is across the street from the Chula Vista Golf Course. Both the big buses and the small buses will stop there for you. This market hasn’t been open long. At first it was on Tuesdays but that conflicts with the organic market in the shopping center in San Antonio. So they changed it to Mondays. Many of the same people sell at both markets but the Monday one is mostly for already made foods. It is great if you don’t like to cook or don’t have a kitchen. You can just freeze these delicious dishes and put them in the microwave when you get hungry. Not all of the food that is sold in this market is organic. The organic foods are always labeled as such.
The hours of the market are: 10:00a.m. to 12:30p.m. But it is good to get there when they just open. Lots of the items sell out quickly.
When I was there, my friend Ignacio was playing his harp. I don’t know if he shows up there every week but it was a pleasure to shop while listening to his beautiful music.
The photo below shows one half of the area. It is a sunny area, yet not too hot because it is covered. It is light and cool and no cobblestones to contend with when you walk around.
Many of the people who sell at this market also sell in the other markets in town. The man who makes the sausages also sells them in the local grocery stores . I love these sausages. I stick them in the freezer and take one out at a time for a sandwich. He has many different flavors and you can sample them at his table.

I tasted this gumbo. It was delicious. Unfortunately, there are several stands where I didn’t get any business cards or contact information. This is one. There were also other stands where the light was bad. Lots of sunshine was streaming in there and photos were too bright. You will have to discover these stands in person. Contact info for the gumbo lady: Cell 331-314-5982, lecheftrjones@yahoo.com and home phone: 376-766-3457.

There were only a few stands that had craft items. It was mostly food. Bonnie Sifferling had some beautiful jewelry and also coffee and orange liquor. I loved that free sample. Her phone number is: 376 766 2424.

I have been told that fresh coconut juice is also very good for your health. I always buy a glass of it when I see it in the markets. Here is that boy again. This time he is smiling. Maybe he just wanted me to take a photo of his dad’s stand instead of the one next to it.
I didn’t get any contact information on these quiches. I have seen this woman selling them at the Tuesday market. My friend always buys them. I haven’t tried them yet. She has Spinach, Cauliflower and vegetable ones.
How about some Summer Rolls or Shrimp Fried Rice? Unfortunately, I didn’t get contact information at this stand either. You will just have to go to the market to meet these lovely ladies with the beautiful smiles.
Para llevar, gourmet foods to go. Gaye Brown. If you would like to order any of her food, e mail her at: ggbrowne@gmail.com
She had samples out. Don’t miss them.
I didn’t even mind waiting for the bus because the Jacaranda trees are in bloom now and they make lots of shade. I may go to this market every week and buy enough food to fill up my freezer. Don’t miss it. People are friendly. The building is clean and comfortable. It is easy to get to by bus or car. And you can enjoy harp music while you shop if Ignacio is there.
