This years independence day parade was met with rain, due to the tropical storm Manuel (read more on this storm here). The rain and cold damp weather did not stop the primary and elementary school kids from parading through the streets of Ajijic, celebrating their independence. Mexico declared its independence from Spain on the 16th of September of 1810 and this is considered one of the biggest holidays that calls for vast celebration every year. On the 15th of September which is the night before Independence day, the Mexican people get together at the local plazas, where the town mayor gives the “GRITO” (YELL/SCREAM). There is live music, food and plenty of tequila to go around, once the clock strikes 11pm the mayor yells out VIVA MEXICO!!!
Below are the pictures of this years independence day parade, it started out on Constitution street, right at the border of La Floresta and it ended at the local Ajijic plaza.
