Carnival celebrations in Ajijic & Chapala take place during the first two weeks of February every year. Although Ajijic is known for its more traditional Carnival parade with Zayacas and flower throwing, the town of Chapala also holds one, that is more focused on promoting their two week Carnival celebrations at the Christina Park. Where there are rides, food stands and shows every night.
In our opinion the more fun to be had is at the Ajijic parade, the town keeps this tradition alive and all monies needed for the parade is obtained by the people, businesses and sponsors. The whole day is used for celebrations since the fund continues at the Ajijic Plaza and Malecon once the parade is over. Check out pictures from both parades below:
