Fun Activities in the Lake Chapala Community

I last wrote on January 7th.  Since then I have done many different things. I probably have a hundred photos to sort through. It is always difficult for me to choose my favorite photos because there are so many interesting people and places here.  This is a photographer’s paradise. Some of my favorite photos are taken at the Ajijic Wednesday market. Friends at the ajijic market Before I started...

Mornings In Mexico, Ajijic and Chapala in the 1920s

D. H. Lawrence wrote a book titled Mornings In Mexico. It was first published by Martin Sacker & Warburg Ltd 1927 David Herbert Richards Lawrence. Born Sept 11, 1885. Died March 2, 1930. He lived in Australia, Italy, Ceylon, U.S.A., Mexico and the South of France. In the mid 1920s he lived in the Lake Chapala area. The home he lived in is now a Bed and Breakfast. Daily Living and Retirement in Lake Chapala

I am an older, single woman. I am not telling you my age but I am getting social security. I have been living at the lakeside area for several years now. I love it here. Sometimes friends write to me and ask what I do here all day. It is hard for people to imagine life in Mexico. There are lots of fears floating around in the world about the dangers of Mexico. I want to share what it is like for me to be...

The Expat Community In The Lake Chapala Area

From the Dictionary: Expat, exile, expatriate, a person who is voluntarily absent from home or country. It is harder for me to write about the expats than the Mexicans. It is acceptable to claim ignorance of the Mexicans’ lives since I am an outsider. But I am an expat. I have no excuse for my meager knowledge of the expat society here. My only explanation is that I am an outsider, not a joiner. This...

Christiana Park is a Pleasure to Visit

Christiana Park is easy of find because many of the streets running perpendicular to the main street in Chapala end at the park. Also, if you walk to the east end of the Lake, past the restaurants and turn left, you will come upon the front entrance to it.You have to pay a five-peso fee to get in the gate; more if there is an event going but it is well worth the entrance fee. It is a bargain....

Exciting Chapala on Weekends and Holidays

Every town in Mexico has a patron saint. Chapala’s is St. Francis of Assisi. I don’t know much about the Saints. I am not a Catholic. From what I have heard about St. Francis of Assisi, he is my favorite because of his love for the poor people, nature and animals. There was a nine-day celebration in Chapala from September 26th through October 4th.  A carnival was set up near the Malecon and I heard...

EARLY ONE MORNING AT THE CHAPALA PLAZA

I took these photos early one morning at the Chapala Plaza. It was before the streets became crowded. So, don’t be fooled by these photos. The Chapala Plaza is usually an extremely busy place. Holidays and weekends are the most crowded times. I will do another post on weekends in Chapala. It becomes like a different town when all the tourists flood in from Guadalajara and other surrounding areas. Some...
